This review pretty well nails it. This is impressive in ways, limited in others, but overall pulls off a meditation on how we affect the natural world that bears reflecting on.

If you're a "Does the dog die?" person in movies, this may wreck you. The donkey goes through a fair bit. The film is nothing but empathetic to him and centers and values him above all all else. But the view of the world it shows means a lot happens to him.

This is sort of a film made by an animal lover who is being accusatory. You could shelves it next to Okta maybe.

I love the thought that DirtyOldTown's film collection is sorted by Mood.

I watched this about 6 months ago, it's kind of interesting in terms of trying to give the donkey's perspective on dealing with a world which it can only comprehend in very limited terms. It didn't really engage me too deeply but its a worthwhile experiment.

I saw this during the theatrical run and it's the saddest god damn movie ever made. Eo! I love you Eo! My partner and I walked back from the theatre in silence, we were both so affected by it.

Apparently they used like 6 Donkeys while shooting, since Donkeys are probably pretty tough to direct. I guess Donkeys all look pretty similar.

Despite thinking this is a great film in many ways, I will never watch it again
