Saw this with 4 kids who loved it. For adults, it's a bit of a formulaic retread, but the minions' slapstick remains fun, especially with the new mutant super-minions. The scene where the mutant minions come out of retirement is a joy.

I needed some mildly agreeable distraction last night, and honestly this fit the bill. Just slapstick, but sometimes that's what you want. The deconstruction of the Spiderman 2 subway rescue with the "Mr. Fantastic" minion, I mean I knew it was coming, but it still made me laugh.

I went with my wife and kids, nine and five, to see it today. I laughed a lot at the minions, and several of the comedic scenes were very good. It felt like a collection of sketches more than a coherent movie, but it was funny enough for me not to mind. Pretty much the only characters that had an arc were Poppy and Gru jr, but those were well done, so again I didn’t really mind how static the storytelling was. The kids really liked it, but they didn’t talk about it much afterwards, but I suspect they’ll return to it a few times in the future, like the rest of the Despicable Me and Minions films.

I took my kids to this and we all had fun. As someone who grew up in the 80s, it's wild to go to these kids movies (the Mario moview as another we saw) where nothing is problematic - a lot of our childhood content didn't age well.

We've seen approximately 500 billboards for this in Romania, where it is called Sunt un mic ticălos 4, or "I am a little rascal 4."

Curious, how do they deal with Gru's Eastern European-ish accent there?

Didn't see the movie. It's dubbed, and my Romanian isn't good enough. And kiddo has learned Hungarian rather than Romanian.

DOT, I also haven't seen the movie, but it's being heavily promoted in Paris under the title Moi Moche et Mechant 4, aka Me Ugly and Wicked 4.

Went to this with two of my children and two of their friends. They seemed to enjoy it. There were definitely some jokes that made me laugh, and some funny pieces of business.

But the actual plotting of this film was really bad in a way I don't feel like the others ones have been, particularly the rise of Gru.

There were a whole bunch of plot threads that went nowhere and were just disconnected from one another; Lucy and the girls were hardly in this movie. I did not like Will Ferrell's villain at all. The whole cockroach thing was just unpleasant with a bit of unnecessary body horror for a children's film.

I imagine they will make more of these films, but I cannot imagine them getting better from here
