Shrinking: Jimmying/I Love Pain
October 24, 2024 3:34 PM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe
In a 2 part episode, Jimmy continues unorthodox therapy when he shouldn't be doing so, Gaby angsts over wanting to boink Jimmy, Paul freaks out at commitment and Sean makes some changes. A person from the past rears his head.
Sounds like both episodes went up at once, so I'm combining.
Reviews: AV Club, Marvelous Geeks.
I enjoy this show, but dear lord, my old and new therapist would have Things To Say about how they practice. Between Jimmy’s one client trying to kill her husband and him letting another one punch him in the mouth (are teeth that easily put back in? I DOUBT IT), he’s being quite terrible with the “Jimmying.” So, good point on having Sean move to seeing Paul.
Gaby, this is not how you treat a student. Like…yikes?
Paul and his need for space made me yell AVOIDANT! AVOIDANT! at the screen. I did laugh when his girlfriend was all, “The astronaut returns.” I like her attitude over Paul's moments and being all "eh, I care not, going to bed alone, missed your sex window."
Also, I’m pretty sure befriending a client–ever– is just not allowed, per my having to end it with my last therapist. It’s great for television, but they all might get busted for something.
Jimmy should probably lose his license, really?
Brett Goldstein as the drunk driver who killed Tia threw me for a loop.
I kinda related to Sean on this one and especially on the concept of “what happens if you have that awkward conversation?”
In other news, Paul gets PISSED at Jimmy for giving Sean his number, as Sean does the longest voice text of all time about sourdough. DO NOT IMPINGE ON PAUL’S PERSONAL SPACE. WE WILL TALK ABOUT IT AT OUR NEXT SESSION, SEAN.
Jimmy, going over with snacks and red underwear, shame shame. “I just came over to share snacks!” turns into a loud, disturbing, “SHOW ME YOUR UNDERWEAR!” and gave me some consent concerns. I don’t know what to make of Jimmy/Gaby as a “couple” or whatever anyway. but hooooo boy.
Alice, no, that’s not a good idea.
Why does Grace know Jimmy and Gaby are sleeping together?

I can remember one of my childhood friends having a tooth knocked out - his mother was a nurse and had him put the tooth immediately in a small glass of milk. The dentist was able to reset it for him. The key is that the roots are not cracked or broken, I believe.

Thanks, I was wondering on the tooth thing since I know a guy who had a tooth knocked out by his stepfather (....yeah....) and he has to wear a fake one.

Mrs. Fedora commented that Brett Goldstein looks better with the beard, but also maybe that's how he's indicating that he's Not Roy Kent In This One.
Paul losing his license or something seems like something he just might not care about all that much at this point in his career, since he's pretty clearly into retirement age. On the other hand, Harrison Ford as prickly grump who is learning to be vulnerable is maybe my favorite part of this show?
I still adore Christa Miller and her fondness for playing cheery awful people. DID YOU KNOW THAT SHE IS SIXTY YEARS OLD because while I knew on some level that she's been active as an actor for decades now (she was Cleopatra on Clone High!) I still kind of pegged her as "fortyish??" in Shrinking
Anyway I love this show and everyone making terrible decisions
