Abbott Elementary: E7: Winter Show and E8: Winter Break

Abbott Elementary host their first-ever holiday show. Jacob's brother pays him a visit. Melissa hosts a Schemmenti family dinner.
So there was no explanation as to why Uncle Racist's death alert went off other than he has sleep apnea? I guess?
For the "Winter Show" that was a sweet turn to acknowledge that not all students are Christian and/or celebrating Christmas.
They are clearly setting up the IT guy as a romantic interest for Ava, but for the life of me, it's hard to see Ava with a romantic partner when she's so Ava. That's what makes her "less Ava (?)" moments so nice, when she surprises us with something not selfish and so on.
And goodness, Jacob's brother is about 80% annoying and 20% nice, and most of the annoying part comes down to the incessant use of "baby girl" or whatever those phrases were he would use when referring to women. His cadence and tone of voice also reminded me a lot of Josh Segarra's Manny, which was distracting. The guy is smart enough to become licensed through the FAA to operate a commercial drone, but hasn't a clue on how to take a pulse? It was great to bring in someone for Jacob's character, but at the same time, it was kind of a mess.
Mr. Johnson doing his thing, but not enough of it.
The setup for Melissa's insistence of going through dinner, despite a dead relative upstairs, felt very 90s NBC sitcom to me, and not in a bad way.
Lastly, you do NOT bring in Keith David for two minutes of conversation with Gregory. Looking forward to seeing Janine doing her Janine thing and bringing Ava and her dad together.

I thought Jacob pressed the death alert button.

What was jarring to me is that this would never have gotten off the ground! Its a state school!

I enjoyed the surprise cameo from Ava's father. Curious to see if that storyline goes anywhere.
