Stargate SG-1: Politics Rewatch
December 11, 2024 10:37 AM - Season 1, Episode 20 - Subscribe
The US government sends a senator to Stargate base to notify SG-1 of the end of the Stargate programme. Now is not the time to condemn the Stargate as the Goa'uld are indeed preparing to destroy Earth.
After experiencing a Goa'uld invasion in an alternate reality, Dr. Daniel Jackson attempts to warn Stargate Command of the possibility of it happening in this reality. The government, however, has other plans as Senator Robert Kinsey evaluates the dangers of the Stargate Program.

I got confused and thought, oh no, Carillon missed the clip show, as I saw the second post first.
I agree, for a clip show, they did a pretty good of wrapping some significant dialogue around the clips. These types of clip shows are much rarer these days, I think because we have fewer episodes and finances for each episode is essentially planned out farther. But for those who didn't know, more often than not, clip shows that come up near the end of the season were often used as a means to divert extra funds to the season finale...so a necessary burden to get through for more fun immediately down the road.
I did think Kinsey was well cast and, well, the senator makes some good points and then...some bad points. But the most frightening aspect of the episode is how awfully accurate Kinsey is to many modern politicians. Who needs information from experts when you got the flag to wave? Or the cross to shake around?

As far as clips shows go, this is one of the best, because it actually has a meaty plot. But it's definitely a "we blew all our money and shooting time on the episode before and after this."

Nothing much to add except that this might be the most plot-advancing of the clip shows.

I enjoyed what they managed to do with a clip show episode, but I also appreciate how you're even given a meta-narrative reason to hate Kinsey.
