Right, so ... I grew up in the 80s and 90s and was obsessed with Stephen King. I think I read literally all of his published books from Carrie to Rose Madder, and around there I finally lost interest.

His adaptations have had a ... spotty history. For every Shawshank there's a Cell and a Mangler. This is one of the better ones, I think.

If you've ever read E.C. Comics and thought "but what if this also had a sense of Dickensian tragedy?" then this might be for you. Obviously it's not for everyone (peers at Rotten Tomatoes' audience score) but for me it really worked.

I do think the ending could have had more ... bite to it, especially for a horror movie, but still on the whole I enjoyed it.
