Of Time and the City felt like watching a movie made out of Lou Reed’s 'Perfect Day’, like a James Joyce moving poem but for Liverpool, not Dublin. This is Terence Davies only documentary, about the city of his birth and how it fared during the 20th century.
It opened with a moving recitation of 'The land of lost content’, and it combined a magnificent collection of archival clips with glorious choices of musical scores. Together they created a very personal and highly emotional masterpiece, one of the best nostalgic documentaries I ever saw. For people who only knew of Liverpool as the home of The Beatles, it was a eye-opener: Their impact and music were featured for a brief moment only. 10/10!
7.2 on IMDb.

Terrence Davies (who died in October of 2023) was considered by some critics as one of the great British directors of his period.
Passing Time was the last film he completed on his death bed in 2023. A short poem he wrote and read, a single image of a rural countryside, and a piece of music composed for the occasion. (From his website.)
Some of his short films, including his Robert Tucker trilogy, can be found in the open.
