A family's vacation to a remote island to witness a local tradition is greeted with intense hostility by the locals.
Richard (Nick Frost) and Susan (Aisling Bea) take their kids Sam (Sebastian Croft) and Jessie (Maisie Ayres) to a remote island in Sweden to witness an 8 hour play to commemorate a historic and bloody incident that happened 200 years ago. However, when they get close to the island, they encounter clear discouragement from locals and then outright hostility when they arrive. Will history repeat itself? Have they been invited to be part of the karantan, a ritual re-enactment of how the islanders threw off British oppression with bloody violence?
Written by Nick Frost and directed by Steffen Haars.

It was ok, wasn't too long. I was in it for Aisling Bea.

I didn’t hate it but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
I was very confused by the part where a character has a sword driven into one cheek and out the other cheek, knocking out a crown, but for the rest of the movie there didn’t seem to be any evidence of that wound???

I didn't actually see the twist coming which meant I was barely hanging on by the time it landed.
This was fine. It could have used some satirical edges to make the jokes land with a bit more oomph. I mean, they're entitled middle-class people doing tourism in a place they are specifically not wanted. It was right there.

This reminded me of another recent movie, and if you don't know which one I mean and want to know, you can look through my recent activity, and you'll see soon enough.
