Night Killer (1990)
February 4, 2025 12:34 PM - Subscribe
A murderous maniac who wears a monstrous rubber mask sews death in a theater, killing two women with seemingly floppy but somehow razor-sharp claws. A young woman hears about the crime on TV, not knowing the murderer is coming for her next. Night Killer was promoted in some territories as if it were the third Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, this despite it sharing no content, cast, continuity or connection of any kind with that franchise. Why? [Italian scumbag movie producer voice]: Because fuck you, that's why.
Starring Tara Buckman, Peter Hooten, Richard Foster.
Directed by Claudio Fragasso. Screenplay by Claudio Fragasso, Rosella Drudi. Story by Claudio Fragasso. Produced by Franco Gaudenzi. Cinematography by Antonio Maccoppi. Edited by Giovan Battista Mattei.
2.6 out of 5 on Letterboxd, but that's probably mostly nerds enjoying this ironically via the loving Severin re-release.
At the moment, this has free streaming options on Tubi and Plex in the US. Check current streaming options for your area via the film's JustWatch listing.

(Surely they are sowing death, not "sewing" death?)

Hey man, it's a weird movie.
(It's cut-and-pasted. I didn't think much about it. It's cool though, the movie didn't think much about anything, either.)

I did edit to add the part about the floppy claws and the part at the end about the producer. So I guess I could have noticed sew/sow. But I didn't.

came across this via Simon Barrett's recommendation during his turn in the "Severin Cellar."
Ha - so did I and I immediately put it on my list. Late period Italian genre product is a bit of a blind spot for me but I think I need to put it father up the list.

Between the sewing and the fathering I suspect you blokes are having a laugh

I am 100% sure if Claudio Fragasso lives in the US that he is legally required to notify his neighbors of his presence each time he moves.

I watched this over the weekend and my review is - hahaha! But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it. It's a mess and not for regular people. It's also from the people who gave us Troll 2 so you've been warned. Paired nicely with the other late period Italian junk I watched - Blood Delirium which is also for weirdos.

(The Severin Cellar is basically Severin Films' version of the Criterion Closet, only because they're Severin, it's mostly horror, exploitation, schlock, and international genre films.)
Here's a bit from a review in the Nashville Scene from around the time of the film's re-release, titled "Night Killer Is a Trashy Film That Provokes Every Possible Emotion": posted by DirtyOldTown at 12:36 PM on February 4 [2 favorites]
