The Visitor (2007)

A tender and humane story about cold and lonely widower Richard Jenkins who discovers an illegal immigrant couple living in his empty NYC apartment, when he shows up unannounced one night.
Tom McCarthy is one of my favorite minor directors, and all the movies he wrote & directed are worth watching [except of the 'Million dollar arm' dud]. He wrote and directed The Visitor after his terrific debut ‘The Station Agent’, and before co-writing the script for ‘Up’.
Made in 2007, it dealt with the painful realities of life after 9/11. Sad and nuanced. With Succession’s Hiam Abbass. 8/10.

I really liked this movie, I remember, and this post is making me want to check it out again. Richard Jenkins is such an underrated actor who just makes everything he's in better (he's only a voice on the phone in Spotlight, but that voice carries a lot of drama through it). I wonder how it will feel watching it again in this wretched timeline we're in now.

Yah I also feel the same way. I'm only just realizing that Spotlight, which I never caught, is also directed by him, which shoots it up my watch list.
