He's back!

This time I remembered what was going to happen pretty clearly from the books, so didn't have that much tension for me. Hopefully my memory will fail for the later episodes.

The action scenes were a bit mild this time, but it's understandable given the plot. Presumably he'll be back to his bone-crunching usual next episode.

This was the first Reacher book I read, so I have a decent idea where things are going, but it was long enough ago, most of the details have faded enough to enjoy the show.

Wow, this felt super dark compared to previous seasons, until the mid-episode reveal.

Does anyone know what accent Sonya Cassidy (Duffy) is using?

I rolled all three that were released into one long watch so I'm a bit blurry on what happens in which ep.

I like Ritchson as Reacher, first of all, from the jump. And I'm not sure if this is deliberate -- the Child books do eventually get into how Reacher's lifestyle is kind of not great long term -- but Ritchson looks weatherbeaten and kind of generally uncomfortable a lot of the time in the first few episodes. If this is a series choice to show that Reacher's not getting any younger, and this isn't a lifestyle that's easy on a person, that's cool. If it's not, uh, Ritchson looks like he may need to see a doctor.

I'm sure Sonya Cassidy is a fantastic actor and the salt of the earth but after 30 seconds of her accent I'm ready to throw a shoe through the screen. I described it to Kitteh as "it sounds like somebody spent a weekend in Boston and decided they wanted to talk like that, and also they're melting."

I was gratified to see a whole bunch of Un-Reacherly behaviour managed at the end of the episode through a good ol' flashback.

And it's always nice to see a Get Smart style shoe phone. I'd watch Ritchson as Agent 86 and Cassidy as a weirdly melting Bostonian Agent 99.

What I loved about the fake kidnapping plot is that it might be too much for most shows, but we know Reacher and that's 100% something that would happen to him. Like, I've read the first three books, and this is basically how Die Trying starts. He even foils a robbery as an aside of the actual chronological start of the plot! Shit just happens to him! (Meanwhile, shooting a cop by mistake and panicking is relatively plausible for such a situation in real life, but would never actually happen to Reacher.)

It's dreadful. Happily she only uses it for every other sentence.

Ah, Reacher. I was like. "Stopping drug dealers? This isn't enough. Chasing down an old enemy too? Nah still not enough. Also rescuing a missing girl? Okay this is about right."

House full of jerk dudes feels like an ideal Reacher setup. Ridiculous ploys and tough guy confrontations around every corner. It's also fun to think about what Reacher is like as an employee from the baddies' point of view. Fucking lazy whiner! Pettiest fucking asshole!

Yeah, that was the exact point where I said "this is a setup, Reacher would never shoot a cop accidentally".

Duffy's accent is fantastic _because_ it's so horrible. This was not my favorite Reacher book by a long shot, and last season was very shaky, but Ritchson is a fantastic Reacher. The moment where he shoots the cop - actually, where he shows up with a van (any vehicle at all) and a crate of records (???) it got confusing - which was, of course, nicely resolved by flashback and the reveal of that positively stupendous "Boston" accent. Seriously, you don't hear enough accents in tv shows anymore and however far from any 'real' accent Duffy's might be, it's a refreshing bit of ... 'acting.' Also appreciated that the two co-agents were solidly in over their heads but played it well.

I'm optimistic about this 'season.'

I bailed at the revolver roulette, just too implausible for me. Who knows, I might come back to it later. And, yeah, I clocked that the kidnapping/cop shooting had to be a setup for some under-cover work.

AAAHHHH I can't BELIEVE I fell for "Reacher has records he wants to sell."

Amateur move on my part but in my defense it's been a while since I watched Reacher so I've forgotten some basic stuff. LIKE THE FACT THAT HE OWNS ONLY A SINGLE TOOTHBRUSH AND THE CLOTHES ON HIS BACK. I am rolling my eyes at myself.

Not true. He also has a passport.

I appreciate how the creators of the show know that Reacher would never do this thing (or that other thing) and know that we know that and respect us enough to say "Here's what actually happened".

I didn't like Season 2 all that much (I don't think I finished it). Season 3 is going great.

(Except for the accent. However, I'm going to blame the show runner for the accent. I'm sure Cassidy can do a neutral American accent if she wants to and, presumably, people didn't want her to)
