Fortitude: Episode 8
March 22, 2015 9:28 AM - Season 1, Episode 8 - Subscribe
While Frank takes the law into his own hands, DCI Morton closes in on the truth about Pettigrew's death. Vincent and Natalie also make a discovery. This episode aired on March 19, 2015.
We take a moment to catch our breath, as we prepare for the last three episodes of the series. We learn more about what's causing the bears to flip out, and begin to take steps to see if the murders are connected to the larger environmental concerns. We learn more around Pettigrew's death as Morton seeks, and starts to find, answers to his many many questions. We learn that Fortitude itself may be on the brink of extension as support for the Ice Hotel is drying up. And we learn that Frank is kind of nuts.
Check out the Av Club review (which they call it episode 9) for more details and information.

How much time has elapsed since the first murder?
Crazy Dad is in the house, in the utility cupboard, Elena's voice over about pizza indicates that. The brief opening scene shows that he was beat to shit by someone wearing a parka. [Wouldn't it be easier to take off a bulky parka if you're going to beat up someone? also to cover your blood stained clothes afterwards when you need to get home without attracting attention.]
Who was the Northern Irish guy that Morton was talking to about the bullet calibers? Have we seen him before?

I think Irish Guy is falls under "incidental character to move the plot forward".
TWinbrook8 - what are you counting as the first murder - Pettigrew or or Charlie? If it's Charlie, I think we're only within a week's span or so - but now that you mention it I'm not sure how much time has elapsed since DCI Morton has arrived.

I really like the sherrif. he seems, not like a good guy or a bad guy, but like a human, in a complicated situation.
