I did not see that Lily scene coming. Maybe she and Caliban will be a happy (murder) couple after all.

Everything with Vanessa and Chandler this episode was great. The dancing, cutting down the tree, the rejection. Vanessa's affection for Victor remains one of the best things about him.

The one thing - you're going to go to the big bad book for that dude? He's not worth it. You can get your revenge on him without turning to that. I didn't understand that.

This week, chunky knitwear.

I wasn't that surprised by Lily killing someone, but the motive for just suddenly doing it like that - Brona's desire for revenge for her harsh life bubbling up? Still wondering if she's as physically strong as the Creature. I think Dorian has sussed out at least partly what's going on with her.

The one thing - you're going to go to the big bad book for that dude? He's not worth it. You can get your revenge on him without turning to that. I didn't understand that.

I thought that too when I saw it. It seemed too soon. Having had a bit of time to think it over now, the reason Vanessa gives for leaving London is that she's going to find a 'better weapon' so I think she's already made her mind up to use the book whatever happens. She's already given up on God. The rain of blood last week seems to have been the final straw, along with Sir Malcolm's 'female hysteria'.

So she returns to a scene of huge personal trauma to get it (can only conclude that Joan Clayton's wards and local superstition have kept people away from the cottage after who knows how long - time is very flexible on this show). She gets a respite of a few days of dancing, sharing stories and joints with Ethan. Then she runs into the guy who attempted to rape her, burnt her beloved mentor alive and branded her. He threatens her life again, and wins the dubious honour of becoming Test Monkey #1 for that better weapon. All in the name of 'justice', of course. The slide to the Dark Side of the Force is underway.

So on the one hand it did feel too soon to use such a powerful thing on that guy. On the other she's going to need all the practice she can get if it's spellbooks at dawn with Evelyn Poole in the last ep.

Ethan felt a bit hypocritical in that he still won't tell her what's going on with him. He's seen the poor woman at her worst moment - literal demonic possession - and he still can't bring himself to tell her about wolfing out ? Thank god for Sembene.

I did like the episode though, all very windswept and passionate and gothic. I loved the storm and foreboding music as they kissed even if it was totally over the top. I'm a sucker for that stuff.

Why not? I just assumed it was her test run for the first time using that book.

Also, was that guy Evelyn Poole's husband at some point? Or were they just lovers?

Loved all the tempestuous feels in this episode. It did make sense to me that Vanessa would kill that guy with the book. 1. She's been rendered powerless by these witches and she's done being a victim. 2. She needs to test the book. 3. Because justice!

Did not like Chandler's low blow about killing babies. Genocide Wolf lives in a glass house there. Really hoped he'd reveal his powers. Maybe they're saving that for the finale?

We're almost done with the season and I still have absolutely no idea what the main plot is supposed to be doing. But all the side plots are delightful; I'm even onboard with the Lily plotline now I have hopes of a REVENGE MURDER SPREE.

Also the way that Vanessa talks about her relationship with Sir Malcolm is creepy, and so is Ethan's "great little wifey" line. There is no one on this show who does not have their stalker radar turned up to 11.

I know, right? Just bean him in the head with a rock as he rides by. I mean, wolfboy was about to just walk up to him and shoot him in the face. You could have just let him, Vanessa! Or, do it yourself, you just learned how to shoot! Maybe do that instead of damning your soul to hell.

But wolfboy should probably climb down off his high horse, since he was literally about to shoot a stranger in the face because his thought his crush might like it.

Sembane seems like a pretty chill dude.

Kudos to Eva Green, who manages to make Vanessa wonderfully human and downright terrifying. Mesmerizing to watch.

This was the part I started shouting at the screen and I usually ship it. He has /no/ moral high ground there.
