Ok, I'll bite. I liked this movie (though it's been a few months since I saw it). I thought they did a really good job of conveying a sense of generalized creeping dread, especially with the neighbors, and the body-horror bits were extremely disturbing and squeam-inducing. The ending was effectively bleak, though I sort of saw it coming from a ways off. It wasn't the most original movie ever but I thought it did a good job of inhabiting its little space.

This movie had some good creepy scenes and body horror scenes, but I felt like it was missing something. Maybe its storytelling and setup were a little too conventional? It wasn't very mysterious about its mysteries, like Absentia or Here Comes the Devil, nor did it just grab the premise and run like The One I Love.

It might be that it was light on the fighting back part of the horror story formula. The characters do try to resist or investigate, but get thwarted/stymied very quickly; they never make any headway or get embroiled in deeper complexities. Just more bad/weird stuff happens and they're helpless against it. It's as if the baddies were an uncooperative improv partner.

Yeah, but I kind of like that they're helpless against it. It feels more real, somehow.

Oh man, the body horror bits had me going OH MY GOD PLEASE DON'T, especially as a lady.

This made me very uncomfortable because it so closely resembles my experiences with depression. Someone you love slowly becoming someone else, it suddenly seems like they have no interest in your life together but are just going through the motions, refusing offers of help because 'it's just something I have to deal with.'

So this one time my dog ate a long piece of rope. The next day she tried to poop it out, but it would only come out part way, so it was like she had two tails. I had to get right in there and pull that rope out, unpleasant.

Anyway, aside from that flashback, this movie didn't really do it for me. I feel like even at 80 minutes or so, it was way too long. It would be better served as a short, I think. Especially because all of the dialogue really irritated me, maybe that's just me though.
