Angel: The Trial Rewatch

Darla is dying of syphilis, and begs Angel to turn her. He undergoes the titular trial (in three parts) to save her, only to find a triple-cross waiting at the end. And Drusilla.

Julie Benz says the scene at Caritas was particularly difficult for her: "It took a lot of courage for me to go in and do it, 'cause I am not a singer and I suffered horrible stage fright with that kind of stuff."

This episode includes the first mention of Holtz.

The twist ending of this one always gets me. Angel fights hard to save Darla from the natural death that's been delayed hundreds of years, and when he can't they both make peace with it. And then Dru comes in out of nowhere to put the family back together and I just totally freak out. Her role kind of fizzles out, but Darla and Dru together again is all kinds of amazing and terrifying.
