Tina gets a message from her boyfriend on Earth, who dumps her. She goes into hysterics, which is a problem, because she is the only crew member qualified to perform an essential fuel extraction on a nearby planet.

Karen, Michael and Natasha host a Girls Night to boost her spirits. Kent foists a Boys Night upon Stewart. Zalian and A.R.T. discover a viewing room, allowing them to watch the others. They infuse Girls & Boys Night with drama for their viewing pleasure.

I detect a pattern here: the writers create a crisis involving may factors but especially the dysfunction of crewmember(s). Then they sit around trying to figure out the most ridunculous solution for it.

Sounds like a few other SciFi TV series I know.

They may be ridiculous solutions, but the solutions are in fact borne from the characters organically. I maintain that Stewart really is a great skipper.
