House of Cards: Chapter 42

Lucas Goodwin seems to resolve on a course of action, and Claire returns Frank's kneecapping in a rather... nuclear manner.

Can I just point out here that everything related to Goodwin's subplot is really, really skeevy and weird? First the helping his cellmate jack off, then the undeniable rape suggestion with the cellmate, then this? I don't understand it at all and it feels really gratuitous and grotesque.

+1 for chekhovsearrings

(Also Robin Wright directed this episode!)

As one recapper put it, "House of Cards loves few things more than putting decent people through the ringer".

The name Goodwin suggests his character will prevail.

In the House of Cards world? Seems unlikely.

The name Lucas suggests that he should have more luck than he does, though.

I could sort of buy the prison stuff because it is just a tired cliche, but the car scene didn't read as even slightly plausible to me given how Lucas's character in the previous seasons. I just couldn't see him as desperate in the way the show obviously wanted him to be seen, and the scene felt indeed very gratuitous.

Seth is deadmeat this season though, right?
