House of Cards: Chapter 49
March 30, 2016 6:09 AM - Season 4, Episode 10 - Subscribe

The Underwoods' plan to sweep the ticket is unraveling as Heather Dunbar and Cathy Durant make a play to open the presidential nomination. Frank takes a break (and freezes the convention) to deal with ICO and -- not coincidentally -- his Secretary of State. Claire says good-bye to her mother in the most Haleian-Underwoodian possible fashion.

Per the last thread, this is where I start appreciating that Tom is around. His presence really changes the dynamic of Claire's mother's house.

I found him to be completely insufferable, and every time he was on screen I was reminded of The Bridges of Madison County. Different folks, different strokes.

I liked the scenes at the convention just because people were being so exuberant, though the machinations started to seem increasingly silly at about the same time.

I get that show is supposed to be campy and ridiculous, so I'll allow that awful sociopathic scene between Underwood and Dourant in the Oval.

But, can we agree that Claire's supposedly knock-out speech was...really not that great?

Claire's speech was horseshit. I was expecting to get a good 5-7 minutes of her rocking the podium.

In the alliterative antipodean vernacular, Doug dinged the dunny door! Bad Doug!

Just wait till they find out Mrs POTUS committed matricide. And slept with her speech writer.

FU's little stick waving at Cathy was brilliant. Nice evil cackle.

Interesting use of truth as a weapon by both Frank and Claire in this episode.
