The Heirloom Seal of the Realm is a real thing, but there are other jade seals that have sold for hefty sums.

As for the Chinese idiom for priceless being "worth several cities," I found a purseblog thread that claims "In 283 BC, ambitious King Zhaoxiang of Qin offered to trade 15 towns and their land for the precious jade (the origin of the Chinese saying of valued in multiple cities)" and a related reference in China: Five Thousand Years of History and Civilization (Google books preview)"Indeed, as jade is scarce and difficult to process, jade ware has always been so highly valued that one jade disc might be worth several cities."

Neat! I've never checked Elementary n Fanfare but I've also never watched in (almost) real time. How cool to find these links here. I also appreciate the return to the "soulful indie music outro" thing that I always liked about this show.

The jade seal parts of the story felt very classic-Holmes somehow - maybe just because it was only peripherally CBS-procedural/body-of-the-week?

I'm not terribly hopeful about the writers' ability to pull off a Joan-centric season arc - seems like they've forgotten about last season's half-sister already (and I'll never stop being annoyed about her stepfather's creepy fanfic), guess we'll see.

Joan's half sister is the one who got Shinwell his apartment!

Oops, you're right, I spaced on that line. I guess I just want more on-screen development.

I would watch the hell out of an Elementary/Antiques Roadshow crossover. How can we make this happen, people?
