In the series premiere, young CIA operative Bryan Mills acquires a unique set of skills.
AV Club - The Neeson-less Taken turns a hit movie into a TV dud
IGN review - I'm sure we all had the same thought when NBC announced a TV series based on the Taken trilogy. "Is Bryan Mills going to have to rescue his daughter every single week?" Instead, Taken the series serves as a prequel to Taken the film, though only in a very loose sense.

I'm a fan of the Taken trilogy, but am fully aware that the only good part of the Taken trilogy is that Liam Neeson gets to run around punching people. (Hello, producers? I will watch literally any movie where Liam Neeson gets to run around and punch people.) Taken without Liam Neeson isn't any kind of Taken I want to know.

Thought this was mediocre. Competently done but nothing particularly noteworthy about it.

Liam Neeson with a lightsaber was arguably the best part of The Phantom Menace. This show has no Neeson and no lightsabers, meaning it fails to meet either of my criteria for good television.

Liam Neeson with a lightsaber was easily the best part of Phantom Menace. I believe Qui-Gon was the first Jedi to learn to force ghost himself and I keep hoping hoping hoping we'll get to see a hazy blue Liam Neeson in one of these new Star Wars.
