Crazy Cheryl is the best.

Yeah, that was pretty great, and I'm another fan of Crazy Cheryl.

I adore Cheryl (and Judy Greer) but still definitely Team Pam here. But yeah, excited that it's looks like it might be a(nother) Cheryl-prominent season.

I find it endearing that Pam shaves (her face), and shaves badly (the styptic bits of tissue paper). Does anyone know if this is a reference to any particular noir detective?

Definitely; the opening episode was more of a setup/staging and that over with, here comes the jokes. Normally I get bored by repeating gags in general, but they mix it up here just enough that I get a kick from seeing how the next riff goes (ie., bada bing "Stop it!").

Interesting about Archer's flashbacks/PTSD. I wonder if it goes anywhere or the writers use it as messaging/outreach/education? Same with calling out some era-salient racism and sexism.

Wait wait wait hold the phone... bada bing is onomatopoeia for this sound?!

With a TR-808, sure.

Sorry, my bad. It's probably ba dum tish.

"Bada bing" (bada boom) likely has no relationship with rimshots (upon light googling).

Oh, so I think - in an episode filled with awesome - this was the best moment:
Archer: For starters, even if you pull this off, what are you going to do for money.
Cheryl: Well I...I shall work, of course!
Archer: As what?
*Cheryl looks at a waitress*
Cheryl: Um...One of those! A food perambulator.
I'm still laughing about that. Like, right now.

I'm not sure, but I would also be curious to know. Like, if anybody sees an interview with the creators that talk about their motivations with that, please do share.

"I'm still laughing about that. Like, right now."

Yeah, that was great. I'm really liking this particular version of crazy Cheryl.

Also, this is eight seasons in, and maybe I'm still a middle-school boy at heart, but I still find the name "Vandertunt" hilarious. Like, every time I hear it. But why is it so particularly funny? Obviously, "tunt" is an unusual syllable and brings to mind the c-word, but neither of those things alone seem to be terribly funny. It's that weird alchemy of language where some words (like Benedict Cumberbatch) have a strong character and are amusing. I've seen some discussion about this on Language Log, and it's notable that "Vandertunt" and "Cumberbatch" are very similar in structure.

"Tunt" should be the sound when you hit a metal bar on a rubber mattress or something.

Yeah, I like her best in the 'wealthy heiress' role. (I *always* love Cheryl, but this is definitely where she really hits her stride for me.)

Also: agreed about Vandertunt.

Cecil seems a bit darker in this timeline.

"This *can't* be the middle."

God, I love Cheryl.

"Cecil seems a bit darker in this timeline."

Definitely. And I am not interpreting this as a "timeline" but as a creation of Archer's subconscious -- I'm watching these versions of these characters as hints of how Archer thinks about them. So this version of Cecil makes some sense that way.

Agreed, I don't actually think this is a parallel universe or anything.

I'm hoping that Cecil does get some screen time this season. Sea Tunt remains one of my favorite two-parters

Didn't they explicitly tell us in ep1 that this is all Archer's coma dream?

(or, I suppose, Archer's android double's coma dream... I am still hoping that they figure out next season that Archer died and that this is his double and everyone just gives a "close enough" shrug)

ROU_Xenophobe: Didn't they explicitly tell us in ep1 that this is all Archer's coma dream?

It's heavily implied. Mallory says "At least he doesn't know Woodhouse died. That would break his heart. Although there's no telling what he knows. Or what he's thinking about. Well, dreaming about, I suppose."

ROU_Xenophobe: everyone just gives a "close enough" shrug

Kind of like Krieger's clone, right?

And if this is Archer's android, I really hope we see some electronic sheep at some point in this season.
