When they return to Ooo, Finn and Jake discover that there have been radical changes in their absence.

"Tehehehehe"- Treetrunks as the flesh melted from her body.
"Just sit there like a windowpane and you'll be back to normal like a windowpane" - treetrunks, as she painted Sweetpea with a roller coated in caramel.

I just caught up with the last two miniseries and I especially liked this one. It reminded me of the 'mid-life' seasons of Adventure Time (3 to 5) which still contained a lot of the fun of the first seasons, all the while getting more mature in its themes and big story developments.
That is not to say I didn't like Islands (although regarding the narrative only, the Stakes miniseries worked better for me) or even the last few seasons (even though season 6 often shyed away from its main cast for too long, in my opinion), but the Elements miniseries was still an unexpected personal highlight: it made me laugh a lot (Ice King and LSP are very quotable in these episodes), it had some unforseen dramatic turns, brought back a lot of characters, and clearly set up more big story stuff, like dredzn said.
As others have remarked on former episodes, it is a pity that Adventure Time doesn't get the love anymore it'd still deserve. I myself am guilty of sometimes forgetting how great this show is, and sadly soon, was. :/
