Before the Fall

On a foggy summer night, eleven people - ten privileged, one down-on-his-luck painter - depart Martha's Vineyard on a private jet headed for New York. Sixteen minutes later, the unthinkable happens: the plane plunges into the ocean. The only survivors are Scott Burroughs - the painter - and a four-year-old boy, who is now the last remaining member of a wealthy and powerful media mogul's family.

The strongest lasting impression I have of this is how effectively it satirizes and skewers O'Reilly, even though that was mostly a sidestory. The second thing is that while the book includes a direct parallel to O'Reilly, its CEO character is nothing at all like Roger Ailes.

I like the way that he playfully subverts the usual tropes -- toying with the reader's eagerness to jump to conclusions about what caused the crash.
