Placing a note here because I had to know, and maybe the detail irked others, too:

Ruth Langmore: What you reading?
Wyatt Langmore: [shows Ruth a book]
Ruth: You love that guy, huh?
Wyatt: Yeah, except this one's non-fiction. It's about when he had to write the movie for Moby-Dick for some hot-shit director. Got no fucking rest. Almost killed him.

The book in question is likely Green Shadows, White Whale by Ray Bradbury, which (per Wikipedia) "gives a fictionalized account of his journey to Ireland in 1953-1954 to write a screen adaptation of the novel Moby-Dick with director John Huston."
