Quotes

Toni: Your mother – she's our permanent guest.
Sam: She's your prisoner? Why?
Toni: Prisoner? Who said anything about prisoner? No, Mary's joined the team. Even has her own super secret decoder ring.
Sam: You're lying.
Toni: You're right. There is no ring. Oh, boys and their mums. See, you see her as Mummy.
We see her as one of our best killers.
Dean: You know, just 'cause she works with Ketch doesn't mean she likes him. Or you.
Toni: Oh, that Oedipal myopia again. And did you really think she was just "working" with Ketch? All of those days and nights?
Sam: That's enough.
Toni: He said it was some of the best sex he'd ever had.
Dean: [slams on the brakes, bringing the Impala to an abrupt stop, turns to face Toni] You wanna rethink that?
Toni: Fine. He said it was the best sex he'd ever had.

Sam: Dean, monsters and demons don't team up. Seven Hunters are gone. We can't grab a signal from Mom's phone. Cass has Kelly Kline who knows where. Mick has slipped off the grid. Ketch is lying to us.... I wanna punch something in the face.

Trivia

This episode is named after the 1998 movie, There's Something About Mary, starring Cameron Diaz.

Lowest-rated episode of the season, largely due to the outrage followed by the killing off of yet another fan-favourite female character, Eileen Leahy. The outrage was mostly focused towards two of the writers, Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming, known in the fandom as "bucklemming", who were seen as being responsible for multiple arcs and events over the years that fans disapproved of. During this episode airtime, #FireBuckLemming trended on Twitter.

Not Eileen!!

Hasn't Mary ever asked her sons about their lives? You'd think she'd want to know all about their childhood and, for that matter, their adulthood too.

Leave it to Toni to taunt Sam and Dean with the fact that their mother banged Ketch. She's a terrible person, but she's awful with style and aplomb.

Crowley didn't die the way a demon ordinarily does. You'd think Lucifer would have picked up on that.

Why does Lucifer wear a wedding ring?

Did not realize till this rewatch how many episodes Buckner and Ross-Leming wrote, and specifically how many of their episodes stuck out in my mind as incoherent drags that feel twice as long as their run time.
