The Deuce: Why Me?

An end-of-the-year crackdown by police in and around The Deuce sparks Vincent and Bobby. Candy tries to persuade Harvey, her adult-film director, that she can do more than act. Rudy witnesses a pivotal lower-court ruling on obscenity, and enlists Frankie and Big Mike to protect his interests in the peeps. Alston tries to convince Sandra that he's not just a "source."

Also, I would kill to have Candy's kitchen in my house right now. That was a mid-century masterpiece.

There's a set of "TV trays" in her apartment, we had one almost identical when I was growing up. Little fold-up tables so you could sit on the couch and eat dinner while watching TV. I always love spotting period stuff I'm familiar with!
So the Mafia is in league with the cops to get the prostitutes off the streets and into the "massage parlors," where both the Mafia and the cops can get a cut of the profits. Squeezing out the old school pimps. And the women who do all the actual work get the same pittance as before.

And I'm still not buying Vincent as the unwitting mafia front man. The "why me?" conceit feels contrived. If he's too dumb to figure out "why me," he's probably too dumb to be of any use (unlike Big Mike!).
