Supergirl: Triggers
October 19, 2017 4:41 PM - Season 3, Episode 2 - Subscribe

A thief with psychic powers attacks National City and proves to be a formidable opponent for Supergirl.

I'm literally just starting to watch the episode now. But I wanted to make this post to say that I can't remember the last time I watched a primetime sci-fi show where the intro montage is 5 females.

Also, goddamn that was a quick rollercoaster of emotions from "super strength would be so convenient just to get stuff done around the house like lifting up my bed that easily" to "OMG HE WAS READING THAT BOOK AND THAT'S THE LINE HE UNDERLINED ABOUT HER *sobs* "

Ahh so they finally connected Samantha to the cast. Now we just have to wait to find out why she's getting Kryptonian dreams. Can someone with comic-book chops tell me if she's established or she's completely new to world of DC Comics?

I'm not too convinced about boss/friend behavior for Lena and Kara, it rarely works out IRL, but I really want it to work out for them.

Boss/friend/coworker wouldn't normally work IRL, but it's a TV show, so who knows. I did like that Lena called Kara out on flaking out on her orders and disappearing--it's about time someone said that, like, wasn't she quit from work last week?

I'm not really sure I get the whole Samantha thing.

Alex and Maggie breaking up over kids (probably): yeah, that's about how life goes. But hey, it's not a fridging.

This season (and I know it's only two episodes in) just feels like such a slog to me. It seems like it requires an effort to get through each show.

As for Samantha, the answer is yes and not to being new to the world of DC. Her current state seems to be a creation by the show. Her future identity exists in the funny pages. Link if you feel like minor spoilers.

This is a lot of why I stick with Supergirl. I really loved how last season was a pretty vanilla comic book story, but completely genderflipped - almost every important character is female, with guys serving support roles. Kara is canonically even a little stronger than Superman.

That keeps me going even when the show is a horrible, Poochiecentric slog.

(That and the hope Lena and Kara will team up to fight crime and/or start dating.)

Oh, and re: Samantha -

I figured out who she was last season, but I'm baffled how Ruby fits into that scenario.

Wait Samantha was in last season? Where??

Check sardonyx's link for the deal with her. I just figured it out at the end of last season based on the hint they gave. :)

(And no, Samantha didn't appear, they just offered a clue as to who'd be showing up this year.)

They've done away with the title sequence/theme song/voice over. I didn't expect t that. I thought they could ditch the vo, but I really liked the theme music.

So is Kara's identity as Shoehorn out in the open between her and Lena? Lena asked about Mon El, (maybe it was the previous episode) but was Kara dating Mon El, or was that Shoehorn? I'm confused.

Oh hell. Superglue, not Shoehorn.

At its worst Supergirl is still so much better than Arrow and the Flash.

Well, in the finale last season they showed another pod leaving Krypton. The woman who launched the pod said "she would reign on earth", which seems to be a direct hint at Reign (spoiler warning: link goes to dc.wikia.com).

"To most people, I'm an assistant at CatCo Worldwide Media. But in secret, I work with my adoptive sister for the DEO to protect my city from alien life and anyone else that means to cause it harm. I am Shoehorn."

One the one hand, this is absolutely true. On the other, that was a very low bar to clear, last season. (Disclaimer: I've never been able to sit through a whole episode of Arrow, excepting the big crossover event stuff.)

ooooooooh yeah I remember that now. man seems like ages ago. I'm usually diligent about looking up established characters, but after all these shows I've realized they're always a remix (and often a pale comparison) to their comic-book counterpart. So I think it's better if I let this Reign be the version I get familiar with.

Lena asked about Mon El, (maybe it was the previous episode) but was Kara dating Mon El

(I had to read up on this too because it happened so briefly and so long ago)
Kara introduced Lena to "Mike" in that episode where they intruded on Lena's double date with an old flame / CEO of drug company (the coroner from iZombie) who was actually made of nanobots and controlled by his CFO to kill people. Then she, of course, was trapped on the Daxamite ship by Mon El's parents and then forced to marry him. They bonded over their shared fondness of Kara, with Mon El not revealing that she's Shoehorn.

Unlike "fetch" Shoehorn is definitely going to happen.

You can't just be Shoehorn, the world needs Karla, I need Karla!
