Supergirl: Girl of Steel
October 11, 2017 2:37 PM - Season 3, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Kara deals with her grief by focusing her energy on being Supergirl and concentrating on a mysterious new threat. Alex confesses a secret to Maggie. A citizen of National City has a mysterious connection to Kara. Lena makes a bold move.

Erica Durance replaced Laura Benanti as Alura, Kara's mom.

I'm just starting the episode, and I was really really confused because I didn't know anything about this news and that dream sequence at the beginning got me thinking "Whoa when did Kara meet Lois Lane? And why are they making googly eyes at each other??"

I'm so glad you mentioned the replacement of Kara's mom. I was super confused by this too.

Lena totally knows Kara is Supergirl, right? Like in the way Cat Grant knows and hides it? I hope so.

I think she does. I mean... come on.

I wanted another full episode of Kara mourning. However, while I thought it was going to be super heavy handed with all her friends and family, they actually balanced it quite well against her resisting and wanting to run away from dealing with her emotions. But another episode would've made it more realistic, though I'm fine with this too.

I was bummed to see Poochie, and that was how I didn't end up making a post about this myself last night - kept focusing on how annoyed I was to see Mon-El. Hearing about him was also annoying, but not nearly as bad as his physical appearance in her daydreams.

Apart from that, this was mostly fine. I really loved Alex asking J'onn to be a part of her wedding:
Alex: You can't cry! If you do, I'll cry, then everyone out there will know that we both can cry!
Also, if Lena doesn't know, I'd be shocked. I mean, the alternative is so convoluted that I was puzzled when Kara talked about Supergirl in the third person in their exchange. (Also, Lena and Kara continue to have more chemistry than Kara and any guy they've paired her with.)

Also: it was funny to see Morgan Edge. And I guess I called the season's big bad during the last finale - even without getting into spoilers, the last dream with the screaming face sure looked the part.

Adrian Pasdar is now both in Marvel and DC as well as Heroes, is he just making a career out of super hero adaptations but never a (live action) main character? (yes, Nathan Patrelli was part of the main Heroes cast, but there's like 15 of them)

Just caught htis.

Did the budget go up? The look is way less overbright low-contrast CW lighting with static sets than last season.

Adrian Pasdar is now both in Marvel and DC

The DCU has agent Vasquez played by Briana Venskus, who also plays agent Piper of SHIELD. Kids, get training in Special Ops, there's a labor shortage!

A week behind, but thought it was a worthwhile start to a new season. Who doesn't love a pull away shot of Supergirl lifting a submarine up and out of the water?

Thank you, too, for telling me about the change in casting for her mother! I was completely confused.

I get why they decided to go with depressed Kara, but gosh, it's up there with mopey Barry Allen, it just isn't fun when the two most cheerful heroes on tv are feeling in the dumps. Count me also relieved when they resolved the wedding drama in one episode.
