Well, that was tragic, creepy, and sad. I tend to like episodes of series where they focus on one character/story line so I really enjoyed this, finally getting the backstory we deserve.

This is the most nuanced review of the episode that I've seen so far.

Stephanie Corneliussen is so fantastic as David's mother. I first saw her work as Joanna Wellick in Mr. Robot and it was hard for me to take my eyes off of her, she's just a total scene-stealer.

So does this I mean that David is himself is the ugly no-neck thing of his nightmares/hallucinations/flashbacks?

I knew I recognized her!

I had to imdb it to figure out what I was recognizing their Charles Xavier from -- Counterpart! Harry Lloyd was Peter Quayle. (I must have seen him in other things too, looking through his filmography, but Counterpart is the thing that has bumped him up to recognizable "it's that guy" status in my brain.)

*Narrows his eyes generally at Noah Hawley.* So... Wot? by Captain Sensible, then...?

Genre fans might also remember Harry Lloyd as Vyseris Targaeryan from Game of Thrones, who pimped out his sister Danaerys to the Dothraki to try to attain the Iron Throne for himself, or one of the members of the Family of Blood from that Tenth Doctor two parter that was pretty much as dark as Doctor Who ever got. It was kind of nice seeing him here as a well-intentioned guy, even though his obliviousness and self-absorption doomed both his wife and child.

I recognized him from the show Manhattan, which was sadly canceled after two excellent seasons.
