MeFi Horror Club: Triangle

Long one of MeFi's favorite horror movies, Christopher Smith's 2009 film Triangle gets the MeFi Horror Club treatment. The extremely vague iMDb blurb for it says: "The story revolves around the passengers of a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean who, when struck by mysterious weather conditions, jump to another ship only to experience greater havoc on the open seas." That doesn't tell you much, but if you haven't actually seen it before, you'll have a better time going in as blind as you can. The film stars Melissa George and Liam Hemsworth. And is freaking amazing.

If you insist on seeing a trailer, this one doesn't get spoilery until one minute in.

Triangle isn't available on Netflix streaming, though they have the physical DVD. iTunes has it digitally. Vudu has it for digital rental as low as $2.99. The Sony Entertainment Network has it for similar pricing. The actual DVD is $7.98 on Amazon.

As one last note, you can learn more about Horror Club 2.0 here. Of note this week is a sort of backup plan by which, if a person fails to announce their pick by their designated Friday, they will have a grace period until Monday. After that, anyone can jump in and make a pick. That's what happened this week, and so you get me and Triangle.

This is a decent, competently made movie but I would not call it amazing. It is more an interesting thought experiment than a horror film.

We can discuss that once the real post goes up, but my experience with fellow MeFi horror nerds is that Triangle is short list stuff for many of us here.

This was a really well done movie. I hope you guys tackle it! (Also, new viewers should avoid reading anything about it.)

Yay! I am going in blind, so no one ruin it for me here.

I liked Triangle, but it's a mindfuck movie, which either people dig or they don't. It's not really a short-lister for me, but it's worth a watch.

I think it's a good choice.

Similarly to Librarypt, I found it perfectly decent. Unfortunately, it had been really overhyped for me before viewing, and that didn't help my enjoyment of it.

If this is your first watch, you may find that tempering your expectations (and avoiding spoilers) will improve your experience.
