I thought the Soviet Union fear-mongering combined with the orientalist approach to the companions Orthodox Christianity was interesting. Oddly a lot of parallels with the last episode, strychnine poisoning, older lady victim because of money, the clue being revealed due to Poirot's compulsive orderlyness. Strange to pair them up really when there's no real book reason to have done so.

Seems like there were a couple leaps here. How did Poirot recognize the undercover police with the van at the house, where did the packet of letters come from so he could compare the handwriting, a secret meal of oysters?

Still, some interesting locations. Poirot’s block of flats is Florin Court. The church with the suspended cross was St. Sophia’s (Greek Orthodox) Cathedral in Bayswater. G F Trumper, Gentlemen’s Hairdresser really exists in Mayfair. I hope at some point in the series Poirot stops by this umbrella shop.
