Poirot is entrusted with transferring $1 million in Liberty Bonds to America on the Queen Mary, but the bonds are cleverly stolen anyway.

This one I don't think parts of the mystery made the most sense. That said it was fun seeing Poirot on a boat, fun seeing Hastings so happy to take the cruise.

So fake bonds were put in the chest to begin with. The forgeries looked pretty authentic, the head of security didn’t notice anything. The interval between opening the safe and the ship’s departure was obscured and if there was ye olde duplicate key, the original bonds could have been taken and the trunk left empty. It was lined with thick metal plates I’m not sure the weight difference would be noticed.

The maiden voyage of the QM was in May 1936. She did gain the Blue Riband in August of that year.
