THE SPIRIT OF '79

We talked about it, and considering the success and good run of the Spirit Of 99 Club, why not a Spirit Of 1979 club? Eh? Eh?

I would not be involved in planning or organizing anything, I just kind of want it to exist.

Well, I would've leaned more toward a "Spirit of '77 Club" to go along with the double numbers... also because it WAS the year of Star Wars, Saturday Night Fever, Annie Hall, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Smokey & the Bandit, Eraserhead, Kentucky Fried Movie, A Bridge Too Far, Ralph Bakshi's Wizards, High Anxiety, Oh God, Sorceror and the movie named after the day I was born (well, maybe that's more "Spirit of '55", I dunno).

But then, I looked a the movies of '79, Alien, Apocalypse Now, Life of Brian, Star Trek the Motion Picture, Being There, All That Jazz, The Jerk, The Black Hole, The Muppet Movie... THE MUPPET MOVIE. Okay, '79 it is.

I just want to say that The Muppet Movie is my all-time favorite film (and is probably the greatest film ever made), thus this is a good idea.

Oh, yeah, I did suggest this way back when, didn't I?

I could probably be talked into organizing, but I'm tied up finishing off the Breaking Bad rewatch for another week or two. If someone else wants to kick this off before then, go right ahead.

(And oneswellfoop, that was my reaction too: 77's a good year, but '79 is a GREAT year.)
