Ooh, E5 has a Witcher tango! Someone's been listening to the Bridgerton soundtrack.

I watched the intro to S3E1 and was completely taken aback by a few scenes that apparently happened in S2 and which I don't remember AT ALL.

Will watch this eventually, but my interest really dipped after the gossip about the writer's disdain for the source material. (Not that I know any source material anyway, as I haven't read the books or played the games. But still, I think that it's a bad sign if the writers put down the IP they're working off.)

Ayup.

I had no idea what the hell was going on in Episode 1. I was glad to see Jasker back (love that guy) and the killin' was good, but I no longer remember who is what with the different factions or why Yennefer is only communicating with Geralt with notes or anything. Still, the basic "protect Ciri" seems clear and I'll roll with the rest.

Same. I get that the princess is very important and people want to kill her, Geralt is her protector/father figure, Yennefer is mom/best friend and the bard is good comedy relief to round out the "family".

Not sure what the various factions are or how many there are, so there's little reason to care.

I rewatched the whole show from the start first (with my elderly mother, she gets to watch everything as if for the first time all over again!) which I highly recommend.

I'm partway through the season and decided I might as well poke my head in here because even if there are spoilers, that just means I might have a slight chance of knowing what the fuck is going on.

I have no idea who anyone is and if I should be cheering for the fairies or the witches or someone else. And it's sort of melded in my mind with the Wheel of Time series and that recent LotR show, which isn't helping.

The episode with Ciri in the desert went on for so long. I'd wanted more exposition, but... not like that.

That episode is when I caved in and set the player to 1.25x speed.

So, I'm not a rabid Witcher fan and the Netflix series introduced me to this IP. I have read a few of the books after watching S1, and tried watching a playthrough of one of the games. After finishing S3, I have to say that I found the first half still ok, but the second half was cheap and corny. I do not approve of characters (who spend the first two seasons troubled with their place in the world and their relationships) easily bandying about the words "mother", "daughter", "family", and "I love you".

Now that's a great idea. Glad I'm not the only person who's come back to the second half of this season and has no fucking idea who anyone is.

One things I've discovered is that the show is very rewatchable, especially if I just want the tv on in the background. I want to say it's a good show and that season three is good, but I'm still not totally sure what's going on, but that's ok! Everything and everyone is pretty and their voices sound nice.

That episode with Ciri in the desert went on waaaaay to long though.

This would be a really interesting political drama if they had bothered to give the factions motivation, or, you know, plans. Everyone is very one-note and tends to land on "kill 'em all", But I can't say I'm not enjoying it anyway.

I've read the books, they're fine but especially in the back half do not make a ton of sense, so whatever the show runners do to wring a plot out of the various setpieces is fine by me.
