I haven't actually seen this yet, but the reviews make me want to, for sure.

@dirtyoldtown I realized I tried to watch this when it came out, but couldn't get past the beginning. So I tried again yesterday and... well, I got farther.

The dialogue is tying to be neo-noir, post-Tarantino snappy stuff, but is not at that level. None of the actors can sell it, and none of them can hide their Kiwi accents. The results is a mess of stilted conversations where everyone sounds like a high school freshman trying and failing to be a tough guy. It's rough. There's an early scene in a drug treatment place with a circle of meth users doing the therapy thing. Everything everyone says is so painful and cringey. (Also, there's no one leading the session? Weird.)

The pacing is sluggish, despite the plot itself clipping along. It's low budget, which is fine, but it looks cheap. One character is a cop, but his costume looks like a costume, complete with the hat I've never ever seen a cop wear, and a big revolver, which I've never ever seen a cop carry. He's also wearing a lot of mascara, lipstick and other makeup, and not as a character thing. I don't think they coordinated with the lighting department. He's introduced as being a the baddest of the badasses, and.... he does not project that at all, looks or attitude.

I haven't made it father than... 20 minutes? It's just not very engaging, and I'm having difficulty getting past the high school play quality.
