Reading the description I thought "oh, so Nan Goldin, then?" but it seems more like it's an "inspired by" thing than a biopic. Only link mentioned on Wikipedia is that the photos in the movie were based on Goldin's work.

Really enjoyed this movie which was very unusual for the time. Cholodenko likes to make movies about lesbian relationships that are hot in a real way and a bit fucked up. Quite European in style. I love her.
