Wheel of Time: Eyes Without Pity   Show Only
September 24, 2023 2:01 PM - Season 2, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Rand makes a decisive decision, Matt makes a brief appearance, Perrin isn't featured at all, and Egwene gathers her strength to confront the horror of her circumstances.

The usual suspects inch closer towards being in the same geographical location all at once.

Except Perrin. Poor Perrin seems an afterthought.

Moraine fails to write a letter.

Lanfear is literally Rand's Dream Woman.

Egwene remains the Buttmonkey [tvtropes link]

Only two more episodes left - and (not having read the books) I assume a BUNCH of stuff needs to occur in the final two episodes, to set up the third season..

This was a rough one!
The actress portraying Egwene's sul'dam gave a very nuanced performance.

100% agree with Acari, the actress playing the Sul'dam brought it for the role. There would have been a much different vibe to Eqwene's experience/story here if she had just walked in and started physically beating Egwene. The sul'dam and domane setup was always the most horrifying aspect of the Seanchan.

Rand gonna Rand and Mat is gonna Mat. What I appreciated about this episode is the sense that Lanfear could be 100% underming Ishamael, granted, still working for the Dark One. I also liked the introduction of the dream world.

I think I'm enjoying this on balance but the hardest part of this episode for me was that, indeed, the sul'dam/domane relationship was very well conceived and acted, and (therefore) also very hard to watch. Meanwhile a lot of the rest of the episode tended towards pretty wooden plotting and acting, getting pieces where they needed to be. I ended up stopping playback a lot -- the scenes in between provided no relief, because they were so predictable I would skip through them only to land in more emotional abuse.

I'm going to have nightmares about the phrase "pour the water."

Egwene better get some glorious vengeance against her Sul'dam and the Seanchan, preferably really soon.

Yeah, I was torn between wanting Egwene to be so powerful that she could blast the collar into pieces right away and wanting it to take longer so the eventual comeuppance was sweeter. On the other hand, I dunno, maybe it'll be by the combined power of Egwene and Nynaeve and the true belief of Ginger McHasn'tActuallyHadAName? *pow zappo* fuck up all of them Seanchans.

I mean, meanwhile wosserAjah is all like "now, use a very small amount of your power, they're looking for channelers" and Nynaeve, as usual, turns the knob up to fuckin' 11. Well done, good job, maybe practice some finer control before you go stomping out after your friends?

I'm mildly annoyed at whoever titled the episodes, though. I mean ok sure last episode I think was when we really first started seeing the Damane, but nobody called them that, so titling the episode Damane is sort of ... I dunno, maybe it's a "aw damn here's the Seanchan shiz, fuck yeah" for book readers? Meanwhile, titling this episode Damane seems like it would've been more thematically appropriate.

Man, that Insex shoot took an unfortunate turn.

I know the books have a reputation for being a pile of barely concealed fetishes, but Jesus.
