I got the book recently but haven't read it yet. I may have to read it while watching this series.

"You're just not smart enough," followed by being forced to join a non-compulsory beauty pageant, at a science lab...??

"Some sex appeal wouldn't hurt, Miss Zott. You've kind of been embarrassing the Amino Acids team."

"Thanks! My lab paid me $10 to show some skin during my talent." "Smart!"

OOOOH I HATE THE 50'S SO MUCH.

What was going to be your talent? "I was going to place a tomato in a bowl of boiling water." REMOVING A TOMATO PEEL.

"I should never have agreed to be on the cover of Scientific American."

"And you needed my ribose to perfect your lasagna recipe?"

"I would be much further along in my research if I wasn't making excellent coffee for mediocre chemists."

I like that both Elizabeth and Cal are Not People People, but he'll help facilitate her research. Awwwww.

"The underwear is your responsibility." This is the funniest bunch of lines I've seen out of the most deadpan people ever.

Presumably something else bad happened to Elizabeth involving a closed door before her boss was shitty?

The ending of this is like an anvil dropping, cutting back to Elizabeth's future TV show and once again burning another meal, in public. Very upsetting.

I do not know what to make of this as yet.

Should there be a book only thread? (disclaimer: reading it now)

It's pretty clear that the closed door incident is also related to the "complications" that kept her from going on for her PhD - we've only watched the show and caught that

I loved this - seems very promising. Some great lines - as quoted above - but not to overlook the fabulous production design and camerawork.
What was going to be your talent? "I was going to place a tomato in a bowl of boiling water." REMOVING A TOMATO PEEL.
- In the Youtube era, that would of course be the pageant winning option.
