This reversal in the storyline is a fun surprise. I like that this is more Ramona’s story.

I was also happy to see Knives developed into someone more than a gushy fangirl.

It was clever of Netflix to stream the film ahead of the series. I re-watched the film and noted that the first episode of the series was pretty much a replay of the film. (Why change the Pac-Man story to Sonic, though? Hmm.) Until the denouement, of course. Now I'm eager to see the way that this series plays off of the film. (I'll have to get the graphic novels eventually.)

Was this not a meta joke about Michael Cera (et al.) playing the same character(s) in two different iterations of Scott Pilgrim?

Is that clear in episode two, though? In hindsight, probably, but in the initial watch..maybe not?

I haven’t watched more than the first episode yet and the joke plays for me. If there are more layers in later episodes, even better.

I just assumed the Pac-Man to Sonic thing was a change made due to rights issues.

Oh I 100% read the Sonic thing as a combination of “this isn’t the story you think you know” and metatextual joke

Meta humor? In this show?!

The line at the funeral about "whoa, dating someone before they were famous" is ... Yeah. Michael Cera and Aubrey Plaza became a couple while filming this, and Parks and Rec premiered a month into production. Considering the cast, and their careers afterward, that might be one story of many on and around the set.
