Every time Austin Butler is on screen I think of Zoolander. I just find his character entirely unconvincing as a real human.

As disjointed as this series is, I find it often mesmerizing, and the episodes always feel like they’re over too soon. Maybe they’re deliberately trying to capture the industrial feel of the air corps, facing death or capture on the job but sleeping in a warm, safe bed every night.

I'm definitely liking this series better now than I did after episodes 1-4.

In other news, I just found out the answer to my question from the Dune thread four years ago 'Who's playing Sting?'. Would you believe Austin Butler?

Had to pause the show due to eyestrain after the "great escape attempt" line from the new camp commandant had me rolling them pretty hard. I'm surprised they didn't have Austin Butler bouncing a baseball off a wall.

But I am a fan of that movie so it was fun seeing another perspective on that event. And demonstrating how the decision to try to escape wasn't always clearcut; in the 1963 movie it seemed like every prisoner was just itching to make an attempt but there was no doubt an argument for just staying put.

At last, the P-51s show up. The brief scenes of them and the Luftwaffe dogfighting amongst the bombers were well done. For gunners it must have been extremely difficult to avoid causing friendly fire with so many more friendlies around.
