Earth forces, including Inaho, are forced to confront the three Vers Knights without the support of the badly damaged Deucalion. Inaho is experiencing increasing side effects from using his cybernetic eye. Meanwhile, Lemrina confronts Asseylum. Count Klancain, Cruhteo's son, arrives from Vers.

This was one of the most WTF episodes yet in the series.

I suspected it wasn't Lemrina when she responded to Slaine's question about why wars break out with Inaho's answer from episode 12 - "Warfare is nothing but a means of negotiation between states." And then we get Slaine's answer, of war being a means of domination.

Why is Cruhteo Jr. visiting? a) get Tharsis back; b) bring news that the emperor is dead; c) nobody on Mars has any idea what is going on with the Orbital Knights; d) all of the above.

Lastly, whenever Inaho shows up it seems to suck all the oxygen out of the room.

Also, while Slaine has been reading Machiavelli, Inaho has been reading von Clausewitz (e.g. "war is not merely an act of policy but a true political instrument, a continuation of political intercourse, carried on with other means.").

> b) bring news that the emperor is dead

...or that the emperor will be attending the wedding of Slaine and Asseylum?

Does Slaine want to use the resources of Earth to revitalize Mars for all people of Mars, or claim Earth for the Martian people to have a real place to live and thrive? His comments in this episode confused me.

Also, he declared himself to be beyond the rule of Asseylum, so what is he now? What is his (claimed) title?

This was one of the most WTF episodes yet in the series.

Indeed.

Slaine mentioned that Saazbaum believed it was a mistake to live on Mars in the first place, so I think he wants to claim Earth for both Martians and Terrans, and make Aldnoah available to both Martians and Terrans.

> he declared himself to be beyond the rule of Asseylum, so what is he now?

He had declared forming a new kingdom independent of Vers in episode 18. I think what he's getting at is that he is the ruler of Earthspace because the other Orbital Knights acknowledge his power in a way they don't regarding Asseylum's authority. So I think at this point only the Vers Knights loyal to the emperor back on Mars would try to back Asseylum. Cruhteo Jr. and Mazuurek are probably in this camp.

I think Slaine is going for a noble sacrifice ending where he and the pro-conquest Orbital Knights supporting him all die, leaving behind those sympathetic to Asseylum, including Inaho.

I just don't see Inaho and Slaine surviving to the end, and the odds don't look great for Lemrina, either. No idea whether the Aldnoah.Zero writers are going for a Code Geass, Guilty Crown, or Valvrave ending.

The princesses can still call his bluff by shutting things off -- Lemrina threatened Slaine with this while teasing him in an earlier episode. So yeah, basically, all they have to do is wait until he's in his kataphract and then power him down and let him drift away.

Or something else will happen which suddenly makes that scenario unlikely. Because I don't think either of them need him nearly as much as he needs one of them.
