If Barry and Erica released "Love Ninja" they would have created a pop song with rap bridge at least 10 years before it became a regular thing.

I'm finally appreciating the annoyance older folks felt watching Happy Days or That 70s Show, because the anachronisms of this series just throw me out every time I try to watch it. When is this supposed to be set? They keep presenting it as if it's the 80s, possibly mid-80s, but keep doing things that would be more appropriate to the early 90s or later. Not sure why it bugs me so much, though. Oh, well. My wife enjoys it.

Pop songs with rap bridges was definitely a late 80s thing, though. Blondie and Run DMC are the ones that first brought it to my attention, but by the end of the decade you had stuff like "On Our Own" from Ghostbusters 2, and that's about as mainstream as you can get.
