BBC News Quiz?

Is anyone interested in trying a few News Quiz posts?

For non-Brits: The News Quiz is a topical satire radio programme from the BBC. Very different in format and style from Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

If nothing else, I'm curious to hear people's takes on Miles as host, now he's had a few episodes to settle in!

As a broader question, what's the policy on professional programmes as podcasts? I think some people don't really consider professional radio programmes as being "real" podcasts somehow, even if they come over RSS just the same. And I think I've seen very few BBC or NPR radio programmes come up on the Fanfare feed. Is this deliberate policy, unspoken rule, or just coincidence?

As someone who listens to a lot of BBC over here in Canada, I would welcome this but I think this is tricky in terms of having it be an Official Part of Fanfare.

This American Life is broadcast + podcast, and has had quite a few FanFare Podcasts posts.

The News Quiz could come into FanFare on the BBC's Friday Night Comedy podcast.

(If you're a fan of The News Quiz, you'll get a laugh out of Stewart Lee absolutely nailing Radio 4's comedy delivery house style.)

I love The News Quiz! I'm a non-Brit, and many weeks, I've pondered using an AskMe to get a joke explained to me from it. Miles is okay -- he's no Sandi, for now -- but I think he'll get better as he participates more. I also feel like his mic is quieter than the rest of the panel, so it's hard to hear some of his responses. I could finally get an answer to whether Bob Mills is drunk for the tapings or if he sounds like that all the time.

I'd happily talk about it in Fanfare.

I think Bob Mills has always sounded like that. (In Bed With Medinner previously on MeFi.)

I'd happily talk about it in Fanfare.

Me too.

I'd be happy to talk about News Quiz as part of a Friday Night Comedy Fanfare.

But not Dead Ringers. I hate that show.

I would have been totally up for this until the latest series, but I cannot deal with Miles Jupp I'm afraid. It feels like Hogwarts with Umbridge in charge, this awful right-winger has just been parachuted in for political reasons and has started filling up the roster with his equally awful friends. I kind of wish I could offer Jeremy Hardy moral support but I don't think it's worth it. I've finally unsubscribed from Friday Night Comedy after years of deleting all the News Quiz episodes.

It seems there's some interest, so I've created a post for last Friday's episode. Go! Ponitificate!
