Arrested Development: Altar Egos Rewatch
August 18, 2014 9:35 AM - Season 1, Episode 17 - Subscribe
We meet Maggie Lizer and her dog Justice. GOB goes a dare too far. Maeby and George Michael help a poor girl with BS, Surely. George Sr. finds out he can beat this case. He knows this for a fact!
An episode packed with a whole lot of lies, and a whole lot of love.

George: I am going to trial because you don’t understand what a blooper reel is?!

Faith is not a fact!
I feel awful for laughing so hard at George Sr.'s "You could grind off about thirty percent" line. As great as Jeffrey Tambor has been so far, I just realized Oscar hasn't even made his first appearance (S01E20) yet. Tambor being a brilliant comedic actor is no surprise to anyone who has seen Larry Sanders but George and Oscar Bluth get to do so much more than Hank Kingsley.
For once I found myself enjoying all the romantic pairings in this episode: the chemistry between G.O.B. and G.O.B's wife, the slapstick comedy of Michael and Maggie, and the bizarre mentor/protege relationship between Geroge Sr. and Cindi.
"It's not what it looks like."
"It looks like you're tweaking her nipples through a chain-link fence."

There's a deleted scene for this episode where Lindsay & Tobias visit the principal of the school Maeby goes to. The principal talks about Maeby & Surely (who he believes is a real girl), Lindsay & Tobias talk about Maeby. Watch it here. The video should start at 18:16, the scene is about 2 minutes long.
Another favorite line of mine in this epsiode is when George Michael awkwardly tries to be funny:
Yeah, I see the problem right away *heh* You got all the answers wrong *heh*

The "on the next Arrested Development" bit came true! I really can't remember what I thought at the time, but I reckon that by this episode everyone knew not to take the "preview" seriously. So when it actually happened it was like a double surprise twist.
