His acting is great and the look, spot on, but I kinda always prefer it when the cause and effect of The Punisher is a bit more fuzzy. Man showers retribution on those responsible for murdered family is a bit eh.

Also, it doesn't seem like Matt has his priorities straight here, to put it mildly. All this risk for what? Do you even know what you were stealing?

I'm pleased that Marvel has my priorities straight, namely, upping the shirtless Charlie Cox screen time.

Elodie Yung is nailing this. This Elektra is interesting and awesome and I feel kind of guilty about how much I love her relationship with Matt. The way they're setting up the comparison with the hope and optimism of Karen's relationship with Matt makes me wander if they're going to take Karen down the road of that super dark Frank Miller storyline.

I dunno that the cause and effect have ever been particularly fuzzy - Castle just considers all criminals (especially those involved in organized crime) almost as guilty as those who directly killed his family, and since they likely caused similar tragedies to families besides the Castles, well, too bad for them. He's analogous to The Batman, taking a personal tragedy and expanding the definition of "guilty" to include a whole class of people.

This is Castle's "origin story" in the MCU (where, remember, Iron Man and The Avengers and etc. have only been around for a few years, not decades and decades), so it makes sense that we're seeing him go after those directly responsible. Plus, it seems like if the comics writers ever ran short of an idea, they could always add another layer of secrets about who killed his family and why, so even in the comics there's been lots of direct cause and effect.

Also, it doesn't seem like Matt has his priorities straight here, to put it mildly. All this risk for what? Do you even know what you were stealing?

Agreed. Elektra's explanation of what's going on is awfully vague, even if Matt was inclined to trust her. Maybe we're just meant to think he's ticked about the yakuza resurgence?

I don't think he trusts her per se, but she has him definitely in the mode of being involved with a violent spoiled rich girl. He knows she's leading him on, but not how.

What I'm thinking is that Electra is using Matt's annoyance, and his UST and his sense of justice to keep him from asking some really basic questions: like, a spoiled rich girl takes some martial arts lessons, and is able to keep up with him in hand to hand combat. That she's able to conceal herself from him, like exactly ONE person he knows can do. I mean, he's got warning bells ringing about her, but they're the wrong ones.

Good point, happyroach.

Holy tonal shifts, Batman! I mean, Daredevil! Intercutting between the party and the Punisher interview was quite jarring, and not in a good way.

Otherwise, loving the season so far. Elodie Yung is fantastic as Elektra (though I'm finding her personality to be more of a synthesis of comics Elektra+Black Cat).

Yeah, and that's been the least interesting Punisher, imo. I'm not saying it's not canonical, I just much prefer the character who is 5-10 years out. Guy seeking revenge for murdered family is an 80s action movie. Guy continuing a war for vengeance long after those responsible have been killed is who the Punisher is to me. That's all right though. As I said, the acting and the look fit the character to a T, so...

I loved the last line. The episode ends on Foggy exclaiming "I hope your schedule is clear, buddy. 'Cause The People v Frank Castle... starts next week!" which would be an ASTOUNDINGLY cheesy line if this were weekly episodic TV. You'd be laughed off of television if you closed with that line in a serious weekly drama! But this is Netflix.

Funny you should say that; after Foggy's little speech I actually checked to make sure the next episode wasn't titled The People vs. Frank Castle.

I gotta say that scene where Matt and Elektra get caught boinking (or not) was rather hot. Also, Charlie Cox apparently has some lovely green? eyes close up with a lightbulb, wowza. But yeah, dude, is this the best idea to get involved with? It'll be such a joy when Karen finds out.

I feel sorry for Foggy. Always wanting everything back to normal.

I can handle every crazy thing about the Daredevil/Marvel/Netflix universe, EXCEPT a DA successfully and intentionally going forward with a capital murder trial with multiple counts and lesser offenses within a week of arraignment. WTH, did the writers speak to any lawyers....ever? I mean, I feel like they must have some, but this one storyline aspect is kind of ludicrous from a legal perspective.

Atreides, I'm right there with you, because the first words out of my mouth were "Are there no speedy trial waivers in the State of New York?" We should join forces and create a Guild of Comic Book Legal Procedure Consultation for exactly these purposes.

Dr. Zira, I'm not practicing any more but count me in.

The show's writers also don't seem to know the difference between college and law school. There's a moment of Foggy dialogue in the next episode that really sticks out for someone who attended both.

This sort of heist often seems to me a better fit for Daredevil's abilities. Rather than pummel everyone, he can hear people coming and know when / where to hide. Also ninja training is good for sneaking, right?

I'm used to the accelerated pace of TV litigation (like Alicia Florrick never sits for a year waiting for a ruling on a Summary Judgment motion *clears throat, glares in direction of District Court building*), but that was absurd even by those standards.

You're really going to have to get this together, Marvel, before the She-Hulk show that YOU ARE DEFINITELY WORKING ON LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.

I was really tickled by a small detail near the end; the two guards knew they screwed the pooch and pre-emptively tourniqueted a finger they knew they were going to lose (the wrapping the thread around one of their fingers bit), yubitsume.

However, they hadn't realized just how badly they screwed up.
