The Gong Show: Season 1 (2017)

Hello you cheeky monkeys! Tell us how much you love (or hate) the newest version of this classic show!

Personally, I'm loving it. The cheesy Brit emcee is a perfect way to fill the Chuck Barris role, the acts are a good combination of talented and weird, and the judges all seem really into it. My only wish is that they'd mix it up on the sing-along, I'm already tired of Shaving Cream...

I watched an entire episode and never realized that host Tommy Maitland is actually Mike Myers.

I've watched all the episodes so far and I had no idea. That makes having Dana Carvey on as a judge last week even better. I honestly wanted to hear the end of that Benny Hill story.

I've caught bits of this and really enjoyed it. It's much better than it has any right to be but the judges and Myers are having a great time and a little bit of that takes it a long way.

All I can say is that that contortionist dude last week had a good routine.

I couldn't even get through one episode. But that was Mike Myers? Now I'll have to revisit it.

To be honest, what turned me off at first was that the set was much larger. The distance between the judges and the gong was just too far; the distance between the stage and the judges was too far. Where was the hat rack? Where was the cocaine?

Yes, the arena feel was off. Not everything needs to be Howie Mandel-sized, folks.

I like the show quite a bit. The judges are fun and the acts are great - for traditional and Gong Show versions of great. I don't mind the larger scale of the show at all but it does make it quite different from the original. But I could do without Mike Meyers. I really like a lot of his stuff but I've never liked that character at all. I suppose this is a new version, but it's really not different from the many other wacky Brits he's done over the years. I feel like I'd really enjoy Mike Meyers as host - as Mike Meyers. I'll still watch because the show around him is great and he's not the worst thing ever, just makes me wonder WHY THIS every time he's speaking.

It's starting to disturb me how much Tommy Maitland looks like a Robin Williams character.

Honest to Betsy, my first impression was that it was Robin Williams drag.

The best thing about this show is that they never let on that it's actually Meyers. No winks to to the camera, no sly jokes about it, and he isn't even listed in the credits.

We honestly have a discussion every time we watch it where one person in the household is convinced that maybe it isn't Meyers. Like we know it is and we know there's no way it's a double-bluff somehow, but still, one of the 3 of us takes that position.

what! I watched a whole episode when I had cable and I had no clue at all it was Meyers!
