Forever: Look Before You Leap
September 28, 2014 10:21 PM - Season 1, Episode 2 - Subscribe

After Henry pegs the case of a would-be bridge jumper as a homicide while the police label it a suicide, he and Jo go on a rogue investigation for proof. Meanwhile, Henry's anonymous caller surfaces again. Apparently, he has been tracking him for years. A letter on antique stationary might provide Henry a fascinating clue about the caller, and he enlists Abe's help in tracing the note's history to a foreign locale. Revealing flashbacks unveil the beginning of Henry's great love affair with his soon-to-be wife, Abigail.

The flashback camera filter is wierd. He looks like he's sprayed himself with that orange fake tanning stuff. I get that they want to mark it visually, but personally I'd have said to heck with it and gone with B&W (or, failing that, a nice 1950s technicolour). Their choice just looks muddy.

It's not a terribly original idea especially in the wake of Sleepy Hollow. So far I'm watching because of Judd Hirsch, but he isn't really given much to do on the show. I also find the pseudo-sherlockian aspect of the show a little annoying. I'll hold on a bit more in hope things will pick up soon.

Abigail is going to turn out to be immortal too and show up in the season finale. I'm calling it now.

And she's having an affair with Adam.

I thought this episode was an improvement over the pilot - not much of a compliment considering how clunky that pilot was, but, I didn't feel like the characterization was quite as scattershot as it was in the pilot.
