The Strain: The Blood Tax

Strigoi love the refreshing taste of B+.

So, I'm actually having fun watching this again. In this episode, we have:

* Eph doing some useful stuff, sharing information and thoughts with the (more heroic and proactive) resistance. The new bomb-happy resistance leader is coaxing him into actual usefulness, in spite of his natural deficit.
* Dutch is in a breeding camp. I actually love the touch that the Strigoi are breeding humans for flavor - it's just the right level of disgusting and horrible for this show. Also, it's weird to see Alex from The Expanse running the joint.
* The Strigoi have Setrakian, which seems super bad. I can't see how he wouldn't be turned already, apart from handing the vamps the Idiot Ball.
* No Zack this week, raising the episode to an adjusted grade of A+++++ all by itself.
* AV Club notes for this are here.

Additional note:
So my sister, who is as upbeat as I am dour, is B+. I am (naturally) B-. Rarely has a TV show made that observation relevant in any way.

Oh, and in my haste I forgot to mention: Gus and Creem are back and teamed up, which doesn't look the least bit unstable going forward.

I cannot wait for Creem and Gus to tear some shit up together. Here's hoping we see Creem and his silver fetish put to good use: weapons, armor... let's see some creativity here!

Nice addition of Rhona Mitra with Fet, as the book had Nora run off with him. I much prefer a woman who's been in a Pitch Black movie paired up with Fet.

I also fear for Setrakian!

No way is Dutch sticking around. She'll blow her way out of there soon enough like Lady McGuyver.

I hope so too! The show is best when it really embraces the crazy. I'll be disappointed if Creem didn't salvage at least some stuff from his island. (I know he made it sound like he didn't get anything there, but he doesn't like Setrakian one bit, so I figure he wouldn't exactly be forthcoming.)

Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise seeing her here.

(That said, to me, Rhona Mitra will forever be Kyra from Beowulf. Because I have seen so many terrible movies, hahaha.)

I am hoping she survives. Not sure though, if Dutch is still around - I suspect they might still try to slap her and Fet together instead of his book pairing with Nora. (I'm hoping not.)

Hope so about that as well. I figure she's probably all right, and will even probably be able to recover the Lumen. No bets about Setrakian though.

It felt like that opener was parceling out more hints towards the unpalatable truth behind the Freedom Bars.

Yeah I definitely think freedom bars are recycled people.

ok we have seen the breeding camp for B+ women, but what is the men's B+ camp like?

It’s above average.
