This one felt really uneven to me. Like it was full of ideas that were never quite fleshed-out. The final scene of the phone call, though, was great. The lighting/color was especially interesting, with Jimmy looking really ghostly, as if Gretchen was speaking to the dead.

I found it frustrating for many of the same reasons Sepinwall noted in his review: it moved too quickly without earning it, the humor and tone was mostly cringey and off, and I agree that it was wildly uneven. Maybe it would have been better to spread over two episodes, with Jimmy getting a solo piece about his time at the expo, and a second episode about the party and Gretchen/Boone? I don't know.

I did like, however, that they at least acknowledged that last week's episode happened in the very nice moment when Gretchen gives Lindsay the bracelet (H for "Hot Lindsay").

That Sepinwall piece puts it nto words better than I obviously could. I especially agree about Paul and Becca - I never want to see them again.

Without Becca we don't get Vernon, which would be a shame. The phone call was great, and I suspect (I'm only now watching for the first time) this has to be Gretchen and Jimmy at their furthest apart.
