Meanwhile, in 2018 AD, development execs with Amazon are working overtime trying to heed Jeff Bezos' instructions to "Find me my own Game of Thrones, you miserable pukes!" To this end, they shower a perfectly ordinary historical action show with mountains of cash to spend, yielding terrific locations, impressive sets and costumes, some eye-popping panoramic shots, gallons of fake blood, and a cast littered with recognizable UK tv faces. All of this goes mostly to waste though, as the only character in the pilot memorable enough to remember her name literally does not have one.

Maybe I should give it another episode. It wasn't horrible. Bits of it were even good. But it was just so middle of the road. Just a straight-up five out of 10 with nothing much indicating it had hidden depths.

I’ve watched six episodes so far. It’s determinedly ok — not great, not even always good, but fun in the elaborately dumb and sweary kind of way.

One of the best parts is seeing actors I know from previous roles, like the Detectorists guy, in completely different roles and appearing to be having a great time with the silly story.

About half way through and it skirts a fine line between bollocks and brilliant and I'm enjoying it tremendously

Compare and contrast with Jez Butterworth's other folk horror comedy masterpiece analysis of the myths legends and characters of Britannia - Jerusalem

Come for the mystic druids, stay for the stoned Romand deserters hiding in a hut.
